  1. I thought that this was a very interesting and well-written book. I appreciate the author's decision to write a book on this subject, because I don't often hear this combination in the plot (i.e. many stories about accidents, many about horses, but not often about both subjects put together). This book had just the right amount of detail, because I could understand the book without having to reread it and I wasn't confused as a result of losing track of what was happening. The plot unfolded at just the right moment, in the right pace, and the order made it feel like real life and that I was there experiencing the story firsthand. I admired that I could understand Thea, even though I am not anything like her. I also had an understanding of all the other characters, something I don't often find in many books. Finally, this book seems real because of the events. For example, Thea's mom dies in a tragic accident, and Livia, the girl missing since 1953, really is dead, they don't "somehow discover her living in a cave". In conclusion, Missing was an amazing read, and I would definitely recommend the book to everyone who enjoys reading.

  2. Hi Isabeau!
I'm so pleased you enjoyed Missing. You sound like a girl who reads alot and loves books. Horses have always been a big part of my life and I love mysteries so it was fun to put the two together in this book. Hope you're having lots of fun with Silver Birch!

  3. Wow Becky Citra I think your an amazing author I have read a lot of chapter books but this book really was outstanding because often I read chapter book but sometime I give up on then because I sometimes think it's boring to read so their is no point. But your book was really interesting to read I was really surprised that I finished the book that seems difficult but as I started reading it I had no trouble trying to read the words. It made me fell like I was Thea in the story you explained how each character felt and their situation in the book. It also made a lot of sense because you did not rush to finish writing this book because each chapter was well written. I really like the cover of your book it’s simple and it gives you a bit of what the book it really about because I thought this book was only about horses but then came the mysteries about Livia missing and I never thought the murder would be Livia’s sister even thought she did not mean too,I never thought Esta would have hidden her in a cave. You really blended the two main things about the book into one and it did not feel like it was separate about horses and mysteries. Over all I think you did a great job writing this book and I think if people take their time to read it I think they will enjoy it as much as I do.

    1. Hi Nahilii,
I'm thrilled that you liked Missing so much. The cover is one of my favourites - like you said it's simple but I think it is eye-catching. It was challenging blending the mystery and the horse story together. Did you guess near the end that it was Esta? Thanks so much for leaving a comment. I hope you're having lots of fun reading the Silver Birch books!

  5. I finished reading the book missing a couple weeks ago and I think it was amazing. It was very mysterious and descriptive which I found very enjoyable. I thought the plot was very original and creative and I hope to read a book just as original again. What I really enjoyed about the book was that it never got boring and it didn't keep repeating itself like a lot of books I've read. My favourite part of the book was at the end where something happened that I really didn't expect and books like that grave my attention and really get me involved. The reason that I didn't say what happened is because I don't want to give it away to someone who hasn't read it yet. This book is so far one of the best books I have ever read.

  6. After reading this book I was sad that it was over but when reading I was engaged feeling as if I was actually there whispering to my self don't do it, i would have done this, that part was great. I first chose missing because I have been riding horses for about 5 years not knowing that it would be righten in my favourite genre mystery. About half way through the book when it started up the mystery I thought were is Becky Citra going to go with this how will it end. My mind was taken off that by the descriptive words and connections she use to convey the story. I couldn't take my hands of it. A characteristic that made this book even better for me is that sometimes when Thea or other characters did something that I would have done differently for example when Thea went inside the pen for the first time not knowing what that horse was like which I would not have done it just made the story more intense and different then others. There were more points like this were I thought that was stupid why would you do that but it made more of an connection to the book more of an time were I could have my opinions as I was saying at the beginning. At the end the wasp nest twist was so suspenseful Becky Citra really got my attention. Although at first I thought it would be just another story about a girl and her horse instead it was an suspenseful lovely written mystery with an unexpected ending. I can't wait to read more books by Becky Citra when I am finished silver birch! I do have 1 question for Becky Citra how did you come up with the plot in the story is it related to anything in your life or someone else's?

    1. Hi Lillian,
You made a lot of interesting points in your commnents. I'm so pleased that you were engaged by the story. It was fun to put two things that I love, horses and mysteries, in one book! You might be interested in my book Never To Be Told which also has a mystery from the past in it. I hope you get a chance to try After The Fire too. The plot for Missing came from my imagination but was sparked by a real event. When my daughter was little and growing up on our ranch, she had a bone collection. Every time we went hiking or riding in the forest, she hunted for animal bones. Over the years she filled boxes with old bones and bleached skulls from moose, deer, cows, a beaver, a coyote and some bones that we never could identify. One day she said to me, "What would we do if we found human bones?" Of course we never did, but it stuck in my head and I imagined finding human bones hidden in a cave. From there, I made up the story of Livia.
I hope you're having a lot of fun with Silver Birch.
      Thanks for writing to me.
