  1. A Tinfoil Sky was well-written, at grade level, and serious but not boring. I was glad that the author described the surroundings, Gladys, Rose, Marilyn and Paul the way she did, because it made me feel like I knew them, and was there with them. I felt similar to Mel because I love to read, but also very different because of my lifestyle. By emphasizing the hardships of Mel's life, Cyndi Sand-Eveland was trying to gain the sympathy of the reader, which she accomplished; along with it, an understanding, which made the book deep and thoughtful. I would definitely recommend it to many other people that enjoy fiction based on what is going on in the world today. However, although the author wrote an amazing book that got my attention on the very first page, I found that the character Mel, unlike many others, was not described well enough for me to visualize her clearly.

    1. I agree Isabeau, although I am not completely done reading the book, it got my attention and interest on the first page. I too think that the character Mel, could be further described.

  2. HI Isabeau,
Thanks for taking the time to read and respond to my book!
I am curious what aspects of Mel's character you would like to know more about. I ask this not to challenge you, but to better understand what you, the reader, needs.
I do know that sometimes as writers we can know our characters so well that we neglect to put all the details on the page!
Once again, thanks for reading and enjoy yourself as you make your way through the Silver Birch List! I'm hoping to read them all as well and I look forward to flying east to Toronto in May.
    Best to you,
    Cyndi

  4. I really enjoyed this book, I found it very descriptive. This book showed me the challenges fellow citizens face in their everyday life. I really liked how Mel overcame the stress of her mom being in jail and her grandma not appreciating her. I found this book at a good level and not boring. This book made me want to keep reading to see what would happen next. In conclusion, I really liked this book.

  6. I thought the book Tinfoil Sky was an interesting and exciting book that never got boring. I thought this book had more of a realistic plot compared to other books I've read. I really enjoyed this book because it had a very original plot that I have never seen before and it was very well written which I think is important.
